WAEC 2026: 167,486 WASSCE Results Withheld Due to Malpractice Allegations
This was made known by the Head of WAEC Nigeria National Office, Dr Amos Dangut, who announced the release of the results in Lagos on Wednesday.
However, this figure reflects a decrease from the 9.7% recorded in 2025.
“The increasing use of cell phones in the examination hall, in spite of the existing ban, and organised cheating in some schools, are other nagging issues,” Dangut added.
He further stated that some supervisors and invigilators caught aiding candidates in examination malpractice have been arrested and will face disciplinary measures through the appropriate state ministries of education.

The 2026 May/June examination marked the second edition of the Computer-Based WASSCE for School Candidates, following the introduction of the format by WAEC.
Dangut noted that the council implemented several innovations, including the Digital Examiner Marking System to enhance the speed of result processing, the serialization of question papers to reduce malpractice, and a new portal that enables candidates to generate e-PINs directly for checking their results.
